My Half Birthday Celebration

Hello World-

I need to get into a better habit of posting things ever day so my friends can see what's going in on my life! A new semester has started; one I very much look forward to. My professors are so inspiring, I feel as though I'm actually in college now! This past Sunday it was my 1/2 birthday, so I made dirt cups for everyone with pudding, oreos and gummy worms-- they were a huge hit.

A few fun posts from around the web:
This animator is only 17 years old and already interned at Disney!
Jack Spade married to Kate Spade? (It's a fun website though, I promise!)
On Sunday there was a fire in the basement of a residence hall at college- here are some photos.

As My Christmas Break Comes Ends

Hello World--

So we all know that Amy was in the lovely Paris (or Chicago) for the majority of Christmas Break, but where was I? Here are a few highlights from my absolutely wonderful Christmas Break.
One day in class, in desperate hopes NOT to fall asleep, I started tracing a mini post-it note. It was a cool geo design and I was attempting to stuff information of some sort into them. Then I thought-- "Ah! My Christmas To-do List!" So here is my as-completed-as-it-gets list. I completed 31/37 things on my list. No too shabby.

Here are a few moments that I look at and can't help but smile:
Burgers and Sushi with David- My friend David is a genius at politics and goes to college out East. Unfortunately his parents are moving out east, so I won't get to see him often. On these particular nights we ended up back at David's house with my good friends Riley and Sara playing "Never have I ever", eating the wide array of delicious holiday treats David's mother whipped up and naming Pokemon characters.

H&H Adventure Day-
Hayley and I always have the best adventures together and this adventure happened to be to the Walker Art Center. I had never been and it was Free Admission Thursday Night, so we went! We got Wendy's chicken nuggets and hit the road. There we "contemplated modern art", saw an awesome graphic design collect and rocked out to Minnesota music in comfy side nooks.

Crafting and making Button Earrings!

Thrifting-
I got to spend a girl day with Sara and Nicole and we went thrifting and shopping! Here are a pile of new finds. The bottom is a long, polka dot dress that I am ecstatic to wear this summer in Florida with a fabulous wide black belt and a straw sun hat as I stroll the beaches.

Painting My New Room!
This fall I wasn't even at college for a day and my brother had swapped my things into his old room. I protested by my mom told me over Christmas Break I could re-do my room. I painted it Tiffany Blue and made curtains. 1. A quick snapshot of my new room! 2. What my room looked like before 3. My inspiration!

I loved spending time with my family and adorable cousins, Lincoln and Oliver!

Just a few other things I didn't have photos for:
-Spending many hours at the Quernemoen household baking browning and watching movies, just like good times.
-Uptown with my best friend, Kaitlyn. I didn't see her enough over break but loved every minute with her!
-Having a "me" day- including eating lunch at noodles by myself, purchasing a fabulous pair of trousers (as Amy calls them) at Gap, and reading books for hours at Barnes and Noble.
-Judging/helping at speech. I was only in it for one year but I loved seeing the intelligent and classy kids in suits.
-Last but not least, being back in Minnesota and seeing all of my friends again. It was a fabulous break-- hopefully summer will be even better!

The Lion King

Hello World-

Last night a few of my friends and I rushed "The Lion King", a traveling Broadway show at the Orpheum. Minneapolis has one of the biggest theatre districts and I'm so thankful that I was able to have one of my childhood dreams come to life on stage. The colorful costumes, the phenomenal dancing, the awesome sets and how true the show was to the movie created a truly breathtaking two and a half hours.

A few highlights:
I loved Timon and Pumba, their voices were exactly like the movie and they added such a light-heart, cartoon feel to really seal the deal.
They excellence of the costumes was incredible! There were giraffes, elephants and every other impossible animal to create. I believed the people were animals and not people.
The Savahannah at night had the most incredible stars! I felt as thought I was actually outside experiencing it for myself.
Last but not least, the classic songs bursting with life and energy-- Circle of Life, Can You Feel the Love tonight and others.

Etta James, You Will Be Missed

Hello World-

Today, Etta James, the mother of soul, passed on from her battle with Leukemia. She broke through the music industry with her hit single "At Last". While living 73 years of life to their fullest, there was one thing she would have loved to check off her bucket list: to sing "At Last" to President Obama instead of Beyonce at the Inaugural Ball. Even though she did not, Etta will forever remain in our hearts as the Queen R&B.

Also on this day in, in 1993 we lost the elegant Audrey Hepburn-- a British actress who is famously known for her role in "Breakfast at Tiffany's". She became the epitome of class and poise, and always in a little black dress. Check out the original trailer

My Little World Traveler

Hello World--

I've been wondering what my darling roommate, Amy, has been doing in Paris these last few weeks. All I can imagine is the enormous amount of french bread and wine she is consuming, the handsome men she's eying, as well as the culture she's soaking up. I can't wait to hear stories when she comes back-- if she comes back.

P.S- Here is a fantastic little video I found. It reminds me of my best friend, Kaitlyn. Her and her books. -Best!

DIY: Button Earrings

Hello World-

While taking Spanish last semester my friend, Kiersten, always wore these earrings, which I always admired. Since I'm sort of crafty I wanted to try and make some myself. They worked, so I'm here to pass on my expertise.

Step 1: Pick up some "filler" buttons at Hancock Fabrics, Joann Fabrics, or your favorite fabric store.
Step 2:  While at the fabric store pick up some fabulous fabric. Smaller prints, stripes, and solid colors tend to work best. Also, thinner fabric is prime.
Step 3: On the back of the buttons there is a circle- use that circle as a guide to how large of a circle the fabric should be. (If you cut out a bigger or smaller circle than suggested, it is likely the earrings won't turn out.)
Step 4: Place the top of the button (the part with the metal teeth) on the circle of fabric. With the help of an eraser, get wrap the fabric around the button.
Step 5: Once the fabric is wrapped around the button put on the top (the other piece with the slot) and make sure it snaps.
Step 6: Cut the metal piece that sticks out, so it is flush across. Glue an earring post ( I use Sterling Silver Plated) to the back-- they can be found at any craft store. Here you have you lovely button earrings! I made this particular set for my friend, Hayley, for her birthday this December. Happy making!
